Welcome to Training Tech Solutions 2007!

October 10, 2007

You can’t be in two places at once. Sad, but true.

There are over 130 sessions at Training Tech Solutions 2007, and you’re not going to be able to make them all.

We hope this blog will help. If you attended a session that really inspired you, if you met someone who gave you some insight, if you found a new tool you’re excited about–in short, if you’ve learned something–tell us about it!

Here is the place to share what you’ve learned to help make the most of everyone’s conference experience.

It’s also the place to ask questions, find out about your peers’ interests, and talk about anything else you want (where are you going to dinner in Salt Lake City?).

What are you most excited about? What’s one session you are definitely not going to miss? What’s been good so far?

Greetings from Day 1. I had a fun morning hosting the “collaboration on a shoestring” learning lab, in which we looked at ways of repurposing free, easy technologies like blogs and wikis into training support tools and even course hosting mechanisms. And THEN I got to have lunch with people from Google. Excellent morning! If you are faced with the problem of having to choose between topics, remember that many session handouts are available online so you can at least perhaps have a ‘taste’ of something you might have missed.

Hello from Day 2! We’ve been having a lot of fun in our sessions demonstrating the online version of the class at the same time we are here at the conference. During our sessions, I’ve been logged into a live online session at the same time Jennifer Hofmann is presenting. Some participants who have laptops have even been able to join me and participate with the technology with me. It’s giving everyone that extra view and that rare opportunity to peek behind the scenes and see what synchronous trainers and producers really do when they go live. I have to say though, it’s very strange having you all look at me while I’m doing it!

I really enjoyed running the Software Simulation Theory workshop. Thank you to all of the participants. The whole session was very lively and quite interactive which only works when participants are willing to put in the energy and effort. If anyone from that session or the show in general would like the slides, just email me: dwilkins@knowledgeplanet.com

I would also like to encourage all of you to check out http://www.wearesmater.com We Are Smarter is a community initiative where we in the HR community can share ideas and best practices around using Web 2.0 technologies to solve our business challenges, like recruiting, retention, talent management, learning and development etc… It’s a community for practitioners to come to terms with Web 2.0 and share ideas about how it might change the way we do our jobs. I’m the HR group leader and would welcome anyone who would like to join or contribute more formally by blogging or perhaps doing a podcast or the like. If you are interested, drop me a line at the email above.

Enjoy the rest of the show.
